KUALA LUMPUR, 13 DEC – Whether you are a dedicated superbike enthusiast or not, be prepared to indulge in a spectacular gathering of 1,000 Harley-Davidson die-hards on Dec 16 in the federal capital.
The ‘Rev Your Engines: The Harley-Davidson 120th Anniversary Celebration Malaysia 2023’ at the ‘Route 77 Harley-Davidson of Kuala Lumpur’ outlet in Jalan Ampang is destined to be the largest ever, motorised two-wheel show in Malaysia.
The event – that will amass bikes worth RM100,000 to RM500,000 each (to total over RM100 million worth of machines on the road) – will also include an exhibition of classic cars and customised three-wheelers.
Event organising spokesman Larry Yap said that Harley-Davidson owners from the around the country would be joined by other riders from the Asean, Indian sub-continent and Asia-Pacific regions.
“There will be plenty of women riders, too, joining their male counterparts in the age range of 35 to 65 years.
“It will be a fantastic touristic event for everyone to spur the nation’s economy.
“It is destined to bring in millions of ringgit in tourism revenue from spin-offs in the hospitality, travel, food and beverage sectors.
“Marking 120 years of the iconic Harley-Davidson brand, the exclusive gathering promises a thrilling homage to the spirit of adventure and the enduring camaraderie of riders worldwide.
“Harley-Davidson stands for more than just motorcycles.
“It embodies a lifestyle, sense of adventure and a commitment to the values of freedom, tradition, quality and friendship – the very same values this event will bring to all,” said Yap, who also operates the ‘Route 77 Harley-Davidson of Kuala Lumpur’ outlet.
He added that participants could immerse themselves in a captivating showcase of legendary motorcycles, a parade around key landmarks in the federal capital, ‘rock out concert’ of live music performances and a rich display of Harley-Davidson’s history, merchandise and memorabilia at an exhibition – culminating with a Harley-Davidson party at the ‘Route 77’ outlet.
“Riders will gather at 9am at the Malaysia Tourism Centre (Matic) in Jalan Ampang, before being flagged-off by a top Tourism Malaysia official at 12 noon.
“They will parade 50km for a two-hour ride through Jalan Ampang, past the Kuala Lumpur City Centre’s iconic Petronas Twin Towers, and other selected city landmarks before proceeding to the ‘Route 77’ outlet.
“The party will begin at 2.30pm and run through midnight,” said Yap.
Yap added that the atmosphere at the event would transform into a kaleidoscope of colours, with a perfect blend of adrenaline and excitement.
“The energy will intensify as some of our Malaysian legendary bands take stage, belting out rock and blues that create a harmonious crescendo that encapsulates the essence of the Harley-Davidson experience.
“So, step into a realm where the legacy of Harley-Davidson unfolds before your eyes where we welcome you to a spectacular exhibition and showcase that celebrates the iconic brand’s rich history, innovation and boundless spirit of adventure!
“A captivating audio-visual presentation will take centre stage, projecting a larger-than-life story of Harley-Davidson’s origins, depicting the visionaries who dared to dream of creating the ultimate riding experience.
“The tale unfolds like a blockbuster movie, taking you through the highs and lows of the brand’s journey, emphasising the perseverance that made Harley-Davidson an icon.
“A riding simulator will let you experience the thrill of cruising down an open highway, wind in your hair, and the engine’s pulse beneath you.
“With an adrenaline rush, you will steer the virtual motorcycle, feeling an authentic connection to the open road,” Yap said.
He added that amid the roar of gleaming engines the leather-jacket clad riders would share stories of their journeys,
“As the riders parade, it will be an immersive experience that captures the essence of exploration, freedom and the unique bond between rider and machine.
“They will feel the power beneath them, and let the road guide them to moments of exhilaration, discovery and unforgettable moments,” said Yap.
He added that although the Harley-Davidson motorcycles were considered premium products for a niche market, the particular event would garner riders from various socio-economic backgrounds – a mix of blue-collar workers, professionals and enthusiasts who invest in their passion for riding.
“Being a family-friendly event, riders will bring their partners and children involved with riding groups, clubs and enthusiasts to share the experience.
“The target audience comprises urban dwellers who appreciate the combination of style and performance offered by Harley-Davidson motorcycles, as well as the convenience of navigating city and scenic backroads.
“These are those who resonate with the American culture, heritage and values that the Harley-Davidson brand represents, and who see motorcycling as a lifestyle choice.
“Participants either have interests in customising motorcycles, riding long distances or being part of the broader motorcycle community,” Yap said.
