KUALA LUMPUR, 13 DEC – Thailand is committed to reaffirm its proactive economic diplomacy and to continue working hand-in-hand with Malaysia.
Thailand’s ambassador to Malaysia Lada Phumas said that her country not only wanted to do so with the Malaysian government, but also its counterparts and business partners.
“This is to strengthen our existing cooperation, as well as to forge new areas of cooperation, for Thailand and Malaysia’s mutual benefits and the everlasting friendship,” she said.
Lada added that economic policies took centre stage at Thailand’s new administration, of which their utmost priority was to reinvigorate Thailand’s growth potential.
“We aim to do this by opening our doors to welcome more tourists and business travellers, while pushing ahead for new economies, making digital, green and high-technology defence industries as well as startups as the key engines of our sustainable economic growth,” Lada said at a reception to mark ‘Thailand’s National Day 2023’, the ‘Birthday Anniversary of His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej The Great’, and ‘Thailand’s Father’s Day’ at the Mandarin Oriental, Kuala Lumpur.
Present were guest-of-honour Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Malaysia Datuk Seri Azalina Othman Said, Communications and Digital Minister Fahmi Fadzil, Army chief General Datuk Muhammad Hafizuddeain Jantan, deputy Royal Malaysian Navy chief Datuk Zulhelmy Ithnain and deputy Inspector-General of Police Datuk Seri Ayob Khan Mydin Pitchay.
Lada reflected on Thailand and Malaysia’s strong bond of friendship, and their breadth and depth of cooperation, which had been cultivated during the past 66 years.
“To highlight what together we have achieved during the year of 2023, we witnessed the successful exchange of high-level visits between our two leaders.
“This included the official visit to Thailand in February by Malaysian Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, and the official visit to Malaysia in October by Thai Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin soon after their assumption of duties,” Lada said.
She added that the two leaders met on Nov 27 at the Malaysia-Thailand border town of Sadao in Songkhla province – echoing their joint determination towards the further enhancement of their bilateral relations and border development.
“This encompassed a focus on international and border; tourism; agriculture; and border security.
“I wish to express our sincere appreciation to Malaysia for the continuous cooperation and unwavering support throughout the year,” Lada said.
On another note, she said that for generations, Thais from all over the world commemorated the legacies of their late King Bhumibol on the special day.
“Among his majesty’s many accomplishments, one particular is his wisdom of the timeless ‘Sufficiency Economy Philosophy’ (SEP).
“Likewise, his majesty’s contribution to Thailand’s sustainable development, especially in agriculture, soil management and the ‘Royal Rainmaking Project’ has earned massive praise from the international community.
“Fittingly on this occasion, in recognition of his majesty’s lifetime work and contribution on ‘Soil Science and Resources Conservation’, the United Nations General Assembly has officially designated this particular date – the 5th of December – as the ‘World Soil Day’,” she said. – airtimes.my
