MENTAKAB, 7 DEC – The work of intelligence officers and men might be discreet and unnoticeable.
However, the resultant impact from their tasks is always felt, by and large.
Retiring 17th Malaysian Defence Intelligence Organisation (MDIO) director-general. Lieutenant-General Datuk Ahmad Norihan Jalal called on his charges to continue their efforts with integrity and professionalism.
“Remember our work may not always be seen but the impact is always felt. You all are the backbone of our country’s defense,
“Dedication and commitment to the peace and sovereignty of the country is the most valuable aset,
“Throughout my career, I have witnessed many changes and challenges but what remains unchanged is our commitment to maintaining the peace and security of our country,
“I feel proud of what we have achieved together,” Norihan, who was also Royal Intelligence Corps chairman, said at a farewell parade in his honour at the Armed Forces Intelligence College in Mentakab, Pahang.
He duly handed over his duties to his deputy and successor Lieutenant-General Datuk Mohd Razali Alias in the presence of Defence Forces chief Gen Tan Sri Mohammad Abdul Rahman.
Norihan expressed his appreciation to all levels of intelligence staff, who had given support and cooperation in him helming the agency.
“I am confident that all MDIO staff will continue this legacy with the same spirit and even more brilliantly under the new leader,” said Norihan.
He warned corps members that there was an atmosphere of uncertainty and stability, brought about by the diversity of dimensions through the regional and internatinal geo-strategic landscape.
“Remember, regional and international security issues always had the potential to impact national defense and sovereignty, either through traditional or non-traditional threats.
“As a result, the Malaysian Armed Forces, as the fotress of national defence, should be placed at a high level of readiness to face any possibility at all times.
“The situation has indirectly increased the need for special intelligence to support the Armed Forces in planning every effort to uphold the integrity and sovereignty of the country,” he said.
Norihan added that as one of the major intelligence organisations in the Armed Forces and the country, the trust and responsibility rested with them.
“This responsibility and trust need to be executed with full commitment as failure is never acceptable.
“The corps will continue to strive to increase its capabilities and development to create a versatile and sustainable organisation,” said Norihan.
Earlier, Geospecialist branch head Lieutenant-Colonel Mohamad Wasli Musa led a parade mounted by 12 officers and 105 other ranks, backed by an all-women’s brass band from the Royal Signals Regiment led by Capt Nurul Fatin Hajar Ismadi and assisted by drum-major Staff-Sergeant Farziana Adam. – airtimes.my
