Robust Malaysian-Thailand armed forces relations cornerstone for bilateral ties

KUALA LUMPUR, 19 JAN – The relations between the Thai and Malaysian Armed Forces have always been at a cornerstone of bilateral relations as neighboring countries, sharing extensive land and maritime borders.

Ambassador of Thailand to Malaysia, Lada Phumas said that both her country and Malaysia had shared cordial relations the past 23 years – marking the 66th anniversary of diplomatic ties in 2023.

“This has witnessed the successful and frequent exchanges of high-level visits between the two countries, as well as close comprehensive military cooperation.

“It is hoped that the strong military ties would bring about peace, prosperity and stability to the two nations and that collaborations between the two Armed Forces would contribute to the healthy development of Thailand-Malaysia relations,” she said, expressing her appreciation to the Malaysian government and its Armed Forces for the support to the Royal Thai Embassy and the office of the defence, naval and air attachés.

She said this at a reception for the ‘Royal Thai Armed Forces Day 2024’ at the Pullman Kuala Lumpur City Centre Hotel in Jalan Conlay.

Present were guest-of-honour Malaysian Chief of Defence Forces General Tan Sri Mohammad Abdul Rahman and Royal Thai Army operations centre’s deputy chief of ‘Neighboring Countries Coordination Centre’ General Nuttawut Nakanakorn.

The reception was jointly hosted by Thailand’s defence and army attaché Colonel Nikom Tongkinkaew, its naval attaché Captain Jirapong Apichatwong and its air attaché Group Captain Warawoot Krasaetanont.

Also present were Royal Malaysia Navy chief Admiral Tan Sri Abdul Rahman Ayob, deputy Army chief Lieutenant-General Datuk Tengku Muhammad Fauzi Tengku Ibrahim, deputy Royal Malaysian Air Force chief Lieutenant General Datuk Indera Muhamad Norazlan Aris, Malaysian Defence Intelligence Organisation director-general Lieutenant General Datuk Razali Alias and members of the Military Attache Corps comprising foreign defence attaches and advisers.

Lada noted the presence of ambassadors of the member countries of the East Asia Summit hosted in Malaysia including Australia, Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Myanmar, the Philippines, the United States and Vietnam, along with Malaysian Foreign Affairs Ministry under -secretary for South East Asia division Datuk Akmal Che Mustafa.

Lada reiterated the significance of Thai Armed Forces Day and the services rendered by the Royal Thai Army, Royal Thai Navy and the Royal Thai Air Force to her country, “These range from the protection of sovereignty, territorial integrity and the constitutional monarchy to ensuring public order, assisting social and economic development programmes.

“It also includes providing assistance in response to national disasters, while continuing to play an active role in the United Nations peacekeeping operations.

“These contributions have enhanced the honour and prestige of Thailand and its people,” Lada said.

The dignitaries during a photo-call at a reception for the ‘Royal Thai Armed Forces Day 2024’ at the Pullman Kuala Lumpur City Centre Hotel in Jalan Conlay.

The reception showcased the Royal Thai Armed Forces’ annual activities and accomplishments, including exchange of military cooperation with Malaysian Armed Forces, various selection of Thai food, promotion of Thai-select restaurants and photo booths. – airtimes.my
