Columnist: 2024 will be ushered with the National’s Digital Transformation

by Dr Nadiana

2024 has opened a new chapter for everyone to embark on a new commitment and determination. In our enthusiasm to welcome 2024, let us not forget to pray for a ceasefire to be implemented in Gaza and hope that the new year 2024 will be better for the people of Palestine.

Firecrackers and merry laughs illuminated the night of the new year in countries around the world in contrast to Gaza’s sky, which was filled with missiles and Israeli tank shells that landed on innocent and homeless civilians. May the people of Palestine get the justice that they deserve.

The sky over Gaza illuminated by intense flares – a stark contrast to those who lit up fireworks to celebrate the New Year.

We all hope for something better than previous years. The year 2023, which we have gone through, was indeed full of various challenges. Undeniably, our country is affected by dynamic and complex global security. The uncertain global situation impacts the economy and politics. In addition, non-traditional threats are continuing. Our readiness to start a new episode in 2024 must be accompanied by perseverance and strength to pursue a still-delayed agenda or create something new.

The ability to change is essential in each individual. For instance, the rapid development of technology with the emergence of various AI applications has made our daily affairs easier if we use it wisely. Nonetheless, online scams and phishing sites are massively rising, demanding we always be careful. The more sophisticated systems and applications exist, the faster we are being chased and detected, the same as advertisers constantly track us with mobile ads.

Some may feel intrusive, annoying and harmful, causing a lot of money losses. However, this problem can be overcome if a person can adapt to the cyber threats that emerge in the virtual world by enhancing knowledge to be protected.

As technology advances, so do the associated threats within the cyber domain.

Adapting to changes should be accompanied by an attitude of openness. Unsurprisingly, many people were shocked by the reshuffle of the unity government’s cabinet on December  11, 2023, which received the attention of various parties. Despite inviting multiple reactions, this change is an initiative to adapt to current demands and requirements.

Today’s technological capabilities have shifted the government service landscape towards digital transformation. The introduction of digital identity, trailed by the facility of renewing driver’s licenses and vehicle licenses online, allows citizens to obtain services without boundaries of place and time.

This aligns with the current need to facilitate online or contactless transactions in the new norm due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

. PADU is an integrated socio-economic database that combines data from government departments and agencies to provide a fairer representation of the socio-economic status of each household in Malaysia.

Finally, yet importantly, let us not forget to register and update our data at the National Central Database Hub  (PADU). Prime Minister Datuk Sri Anwar Ibrahim launched the platform to improve the delivery of targeted subsidies and as a part of the government’s drive towards transformation and a sophisticated central repository data hub. PADU is an integrated socio-economic database that combines data from government departments and agencies to provide a fairer representation of the socio-economic status of each household in Malaysia.

Nevertheless, some may be curious about this system’s effectiveness in achieving the government’s objective. The security issues and the quality of data users provide become primary concerns that need to be addressed by the government.

Certain groups of people fear losing eligibility for receiving government aid. Thus, inserting the data in PADU for B40, M40 and T20 requires transparency and integrity. In conclusion, 2024 will be plentiful with new things that may shift government service from a traditional process toward digitalisation, which demands our readiness, perseverance, and positive attitude. – airtimes.my
