PUTRAJAYA, 30 DEC – National Centre for Defence Studies (Puspahanas) graduates were called to be mindful of the profound impact of their leadership in shaping the destiny of nations.
Making the call, former Defence Minister Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan (who is now Foreign Minister), reminded them that their actions could contribute to the peace and stability of the world.
“Bear this in mind as you step into the next chapter of your careers.
“Your journey may be fraught with challenges but it is precisely through these challenges that your character will be forged, and your capabilities as leaders will be tested and strengthened.
“In the face of adversity, be unwavering in moments of uncertainty and be resolute.
“The skills and knowledge you have acquired during your training at Puspahanas will be the bedrock of your success. “Embrace innovation, cultivate adaptability, and lead with integrity.
“Remember that the decisions you make will echo through the corridors of history, influencing not only the fate of countries but also leaving a lasting mark on the global stage.
“As you march forward into the future, do so with pride, purpose and an unwavering commitment to the integrity that the armed forces stand for.
“The world awaits the contributions of leaders like you, capable of navigating through the complexities of our times with wisdom, courage, and compassion,” Mohamad said at the ‘Fellow Scholar Certificate and Diploma 2023’ awards presentation at the National Centre for Defence Studies (Puspahanas).
Present were Defence Forces chief General Tan Sri Mohammad Abdul Rahman, Army chief General Datuk Hafizuddeain Jantan, Royal Malaysian Navy chief Admiral Tan Sri Abdul Rahman Ayob, Royal Malaysian Air Force air operations commander Lieutenant-General Datuk Mohd Shahada Ismail and Puspahanas president Vice-Admiral Datuk Sabri Zali.
Mohamad reminded the graduates that in a world that was constantly evolving, they were facing unprecedented and dynamic security risks and threats.
“As we gather here to celebrate the achievements of our graduates, it is vital to recognise the intricate interplay between the ever-changing geopolitical landscape and the indispensable role our armed forces play in safeguarding our sovereignty.
“The unpredictable nature of modern threats demands not only strength in arms, but also a profound understanding that the spectrum of security extends far beyond traditional battlefields.
“Today, we face challenges that transcend borders and require a four-multidimensional response.
“Military and civilian leaders alike must possess the agility to navigate through this complexity,” Mohamad said.
He added that the role Puspahanas played was timely and relevant.
“With the goal of becoming a leading educational institution, Puspahanas provides a platform for students to freely express and exchange ideas with high-achieving and like-minded individuals.
“This invaluable experience can help to realise the potential of individuals who are destined to be the leaders of tomorrow,” said Mohamad.
The graduation saw 273 officers – 23 from the National Resilience College, 70 from the Malaysian Armed Forces Defence College and 80 from the Malaysian Armed Forces Staff College.
Mohamad said that the NRC graduates would each gain the privilege of being known as a ‘Fellow Scholar of the National Defence University of Malaysia’ – a distinct honour bestowed upon by the most senior and prestigious centre of military education in the Malaysian Armed Forces.
To the MAFDC graduates, they would be awarded a diploma, as well as a Master of Social Science degree from Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia.
The MAFSC graduates would obtain the ‘Pass Staff Course’ certificate, as well as a Postgraduate Diploma in Defence and Strategic Studies.
The graduates included 43 international students.
“I am sure all of you enjoyed a thought-provoking learning experience here,” said Mohamad, adding that the NRC course aimed to attract more students from different backgrounds, other countries and from the private sector.
“I sincerely hope you will continue to nurture the friendship and networks made throughout the past year.
“We must remember that defence diplomacy is essential to the countries’ foreign policy and security outlook. The seeds you sow today will certainly be fruitful in the future,” said Mohamad.
