KYIV, 14 FEB – Russia is reported to have used the hypersonic missile, Zirkon against Ukraine. This was revealed by the Kyiv Institute of Scientific Research and Forensic Expertise, which identified several components from the missile wreckage launched by Moscow’s forces.
“We have evidence that Russia has used the hypersonic guided projectile Zirkon. This is confirmed by fragments and components that match the characteristics of a hypersonic missile,” said chief researcher Oleksandr Ruvin on his official Telegram channel.
According to him, the fragments under investigation by the research team are from a missile launched on February 7th.
Ruvin’s disclosure marks the first known use of Zirkon by Russia in the conflict in Eastern Europe.
This hypersonic missile is one of Russia’s strategic assets, capable of flying at nine times the speed of sound and destroying targets up to 1,000 kilometers away.
Previously, Russia also used the Kinzhal missile to attack Ukraine during the third week of the conflict that began on February 24, 2022. – airtimes.my
